Making Dreams Homes Come True

Acorn Homes are Tougher than Ivan

Hurricane Ivan hit the Florida panhandle with 135+ mph winds and a storm surge up to 12’, beating and battering my customers’ homes with nature’s fury unlike anything we have ever seen in our area. My unique flood through design and flood resistant features enabled the homes I built to survive high storm surges, powerful wave actions, severe erosion, missile and torpedo impacts, and extreme winds.

After examining and repairing the damages wrought by hurricanes Erin and Opal in 1995, I began incorporating hurricane resistant design features into the homes I built both on and off the water. You can see the results below. All of the homes below are surrounded by severely damaged or totally destroyed homes.

In the days following the passage of Ivan, I received numerous calls from happy homeowners thanking me for building their homes strong and helping to keep their families, home, and possessions safe. My customers have avoided huge repair expenses and devastating losses, unlike most of their neighbors. Contact me to find out more about how you can live on or near the water without worrying about severe hurricane damage.

My model home on the sound took a 5' storm surge with very little damage. There was no damage to the living spaces. All stairs remained intact. Garage was built to take a storm surge which it did in stride. Front and rear garage doors blew out as expected.

The sound front home in the two photos above was completed the week before Ivan and survived a 4’ storm surge with very little internal damage to the garage.

This sound front piling home I built in 1996 on Bay Street fared very well. Almost every other home in that area was a total loss.

This gulf front home I built on Pensacola Beach in 1999 suffered minor damage mostly due to loss of shingles. All the decks, stairs, siding, and mechanical systems came through with no damage. It was one of the first homes that was ready for the 2005 rental season.
